The development of the Egyptian leather and leather products industry

Egyptian exports of leather products to the African market increased by about 64% in 2022, to $5 million from $3 million the previous year. One report states that leather tanning accounted for 90% of Egypt's exports of leather products, with a 12% increase in 2022, amounting to $90 million. However, there are 17,600 shoe factories employing more than 230,000 people producing about 100 million pairs of shoes per year along with other leather goods. China leather and feathers industries see slight drop in revenue of 2022

According to data from National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the enterprises above designated size in leather, fur, feathers and their products and footwear manufacturing achieved the sales revenue of1.3399 billion Yuanin2022, witnesses a decline of 0.4 percent year on year, but the profit sees 3.3% growth year on year to 61.44 billion yuan. Indian leather sector revenue to decline 7-8% in Financial Year 23/24

Indian leather apparel and accessories sector’s revenue is expected to decline by 7-8 per cent in fiscal 2024 (FY24), mainly due to slowdown in consumer demand in the US and Europe, according to CRISIL Ratings. The updated Imort/Export tariff on China leather products for 2023

According to the Announcement of the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council on Adjusting the Tariffs in 2023 (the 2023 Tariff Adjustment Plan), in 2023, China will impose tariffs on 8,948 tax items, and the country’s overall tariff level will be reduced from 7.4 percent to 7.3 percent. There are total 289 tax items of leather products for import from most-favored-nation, these remain the same the average import tariff of 8.58% as in 2023. Council of Leather Exports disputes UK report linking Indian exporters to Russia’s war effort

CLE Chairman Sanjay Leekha told ThePrint that if certain Indian leather companies have seen an uptick in business from Russia, it does not reflect the industry as a whole. The Indian Council of Leather Exporters (CLE), has disputed a report by the UK newspaper The Guardian linking Indian leather companies to Russia’s war effort.
